It was Mother's Day, May 12, 1996. My mother, Dorothy Nell (Clark) Springer, was living with Connie, Rob and me in Fort Worth, Texas.
She had been very ill for a while and in and out of a coma. As I remember it, Ronny, Margaret and Betty were staying with us, since mother was on hospice care and we all wanted to be close, if the need arose. Since Ray and Gayle lived not to far away, they were at their house.
Through the night, we would check on mother and make sure everything was OK. Early on this particular Sunday morning, maybe around 3 am, mother had been sleeping quietly. All of a sudden, she woke up, sat up in bed and was completely alert. She said she wanted to get us all together and have a party. So, we called Ray and Gayle and woke up Ronny, Margaret and Betty, and gathered around her bed. She told us about talking to Jesus and what a wonderful experience that was. For a couple of hours, she was completely lucid and full of energy. Ray and Gayle arrived and we all enjoyed our time together.
Then, close to sunrise, she said she was tired and wanted to rest. So, she laid back and we all went back to bed, feeling like that had been a wonderful way to spend Mother's Day.
That was the last time mother was alert and she passed away on Wednesday, May 15. It was a Mother's Day experience we will never forget and our last good-bye to a wonderful lady.
'Til next time!
