DNA - Finding Cousins

The prompt for this week from Amy is "DNA".  And that's a BIG subject!  I am still very new to using DNA, but I'm learning and trying to use the DNA Matches I have found through Ancestry and FamilyTreeDNA to connect some previously unknown relatives!

I had my autosomal DNA (both mother's and father's sides) tested with Ancestry several years ago.  Their latest results state that I am 91% from England, Wales and Northwestern Europe and 9% from Ireland and Scotland.  And that surprised me a bit.  I thought there would be more Ireland and Scotland DNA.  I am still working on the paper trail for identifying where "across the pond" my ancestors are from.  But, I guess the DNA pretty much tells me where to look!

Since DNA matches are generally with living people, I will not be sharing any specific information about matches, for privacy reasons.  But, through the matches I have found, the DNA is supporting my paper trail and that makes me feel more confident about my own research!

Recently, I connected with a DNA match and was able to meet her and her two brothers and some other cousins.  We shared pictures and stories and plan to get together and share mor inthe future!  And it's all because we had our DNA tested and followed through on reaching out to our newly found relatives!

If any of my known cousins are thinking about getting your DNA tested, I encourage you to do so.  It's very easy and the results can be pretty amazing!

'Til Next Time!
