Tradition - Christmas Nativities

One of my favorite traditions at Christmas, besides decorating the tree with all the memorable decorations gathered over the years of my own life and a few from past generations, is displaying all of our Nativity Sets.

Lladro Angel Singing Trio
Above is one of the Lladro pieces that we usually display all year round, but at Christmas, it becomes part of a larger full Nativity set.  Here is one of our Nativity displays from 2018, that were in our breakfront.  The Lladro set is on the top shelf - without the angels this year.

You can also see in this photo our Precious Moments Nativity and the hand carved wooden Nativity that Connie's dad made.  To the left of the cabinet is a wall hanging with the nativity and Bible verse, John 3:16.

Here are 2 more shots of the Lladro Nativity from 1990.

When I was growing up, my parents had 2 Nativity sets.  One was a hinged, stationary set that had belonged to my mother's parents, Elmer and Agnes Clark.  Agnes died in 1958, when I was 5, so this set was very special.  All of the pieces were glued in place and the portion where the cow and sheep are folds up into the manger for storage.  It looked a lot like this one I found on ebay:

My parents also had a Nativity scene, and the pieces could be arranged. My sister and I took turns each year (at least that's the way I remember it) who would get to arrange the figures. Here it is on the table behind my mom.  It's a pretty bad picture of the Nativity, but gives you an idea what it looked like. The next picture is the "manger scene" cropped, the 3rd one is just a different year and the 4th one is a better picture of the stable from ebay.

Another Nativity is one that Connie purchased and it is made of Teak wood. It is the one of two we have that has 3 camels!

We also purchased an all white scene that a good friend at a church we attended had made by hand.  This is the other one that has 3 camels!

Our favorite Nativity scene is the one that Connie's dad made.  It's the one on the bottom shelf in the breakfront.  Here is her mom's set on her piano.

Our latest addition is one made by the Alexander Doll Company.  For several years, we collected Madame Alexander dolls, but have sold most of them.  Earlier this year, Connie and I were at an Estate Sale and saw this one.  I didn't know that it even existed.  They also sold an angel, shepherds and 3 wise men to go with the set.  Maybe someday we'll find them at another sale!

We hope that you have some wonderful holiday traditions with your family that are passed down through the generations.

Merry Christmas 'Til Next Time!
