Same Name - Names Passed from Father to Son

In my Springer family, I have a little trouble keeping straight who is who, when it comes to the names George and Aubrey.  Here is a bit of my dilemma.

My father's name was Aubrey Delton.

Aubrey Delton Springer

The only place he was EVER called Aubrey was at his job.  They used everyone's first name and so that made sense.  He was NEVER called Aubrey at home, because his father (my grandfather) was named George Aubrey.

George Aubrey Springer

In our family, and all the place I knew about my grandfather was always Aubrey - never George.  Sometimes, he was referred to as G. A., but not a lot.  But even that gets confusing, because HIS father had the same initials - G. A.  His name was George Andrew!

George Andrew Springer

I never knew my great grandfather because he died in 1919 with Coronary Thrombosis and Coronory Atherosclerosis.  He was just 54 years old.  I believe that's where some of MY heart problems come from!  Since I never knew him, I don't really know what he was called, but I suspect it was George and that is why my grandfather wound up being called Aubrey!

The name George has continued to be used - one of my dad's brothers was George Henry (Henry is from my grandmother's dad - John "Henry" Ramer).

George Henry Springer

He was always called "George Henry" in our family.  And I had a brother who was named "George" Ronald.

George Ronald Springer

We called him Ronny, but he was called George at work.  But, since that name was more often used after he moved away from our home, even his wife called him George!  And then, he named his son Steven George.  So, the name George has lived on.

But, no one I know in our family has carried on the name Aubrey.  When my wife and I were trying to decide what to name our son - we wanted to name him after his grandfathers.  But, we very quickly ruled out Archibald Aubrey! lol!!!

I think named are fascinating and how they are used over and over through generations and how they change - sometimes even in our own lifetimes!  Like my name.

But that is a story for another time!
