Another Poem from Grandma Ella Busby Springer

I have shared some of the poems written by my great grandmother, Ella Busby Springer, after she was 72 years old.  They are not great poetry, but they are fun and sometimes contain some wisdom that we need to hear!

So, here is one called, "Little Accidents In Life"

Grandpa was walking down the street,
Not noticing the direction of his feet,
A car whizzed by,
Hit grandpa in the thigh,
Now the balance of his life,
He’ll be waited on by wife.
(Don’t let this happen to you.)

Grandma was going upstairs,
Putting her feet she knew not where,
She stepped on spool of thread,
And now alas, the poor soul is dead.
(Don’t let this happen to you.)

Dad was working a gentle team,
Gentlest dad said ever seen,
He hit them with a whip,
Causing the team to jump and skip,
Leaving dad dangling behind,
Holding nothing but the lines.
(Don’t let this happen to you.)

Mother was using washing machine,
Getting clothes so white and clean,
But all of a sudden,
She struck a big button,
And now hand is in a sling,
She can’t wear her wedding ring.
(Don’t let this happen to you.)

Tom was driving at breakneck speed.
Not giving the cops a bit of heed,
When all at once,
He felt like a dunce,
When cop shouted it’s a five dollar fine,
To run a boulevard sign.
(Don’t let this happen to you.)

Mary was going walking with her beau,
Which they did allow you know,
So she went through the garden,
Slipped and hurt her Dolly Varden.
(Don’t let this happen to you.)

Has anybody ever heard of a "Dolly Varden"?
